Overview
Melo is a local-first Mac application. Your notes, tasks, and canvas data are stored entirely on your device and are never transmitted to our servers. This policy explains the limited data we do collect and why.
Data We Collect
License & account data. When you purchase a license we collect your email address and a hashed device identifier to activate and manage your license. This data is processed by our payment provider (Stripe) and stored securely.
Checkout & payment data. All payment information (card details, billing address) is handled exclusively by Stripe and is never seen or stored by us. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Anonymous analytics. We collect minimal, aggregated analytics (page visits, button clicks on our website) via PostHog to understand how people discover Melo. No personal information is attached to these events. You can opt out via your browser's Do Not Track setting.
Crash diagnostics. The app may log anonymised crash reports (stack traces without any canvas content) to help us fix bugs. No user-generated content is ever included.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- The content of your notes, tasks, boards, or canvases
- Files you create or import into Melo
- AI prompts or responses (all AI inference runs locally or via your own API key)
- Calendar events or clipboard contents
- Your IP address (beyond standard server logs, retained for ≤ 30 days)
How We Use Your Data
Data we collect is used solely to: activate and validate licenses, process payments and issue refunds, and improve the website experience through aggregate analytics. We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to third parties.
Third-Party Services
Melo's website and backend use the following third-party services:
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription management
- Supabase — license storage (hosted in the EU/US)
- PostHog — anonymous website analytics
- Vercel — website hosting and edge functions
Data Retention
License records are retained for as long as your license is active, plus 90 days after cancellation to support refund requests. You may request deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing us at the address below.
Your Rights
Depending on your location you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@melo.so. We will respond within 30 days.
Children
Melo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Melo after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
